Run the Component Installer

The Component Installer allows you to install the following components:

NOTE: The Intel PROSet II option does not appear in Windows NT 4.0. It is automatically installed with adapter drivers.

NOTE: In Windows 95, only Intel(R) PROSet is available.

NOTE: The option "Intel(R) PRO/100 Mobile Modem Utilities" only appears if the installer detects a mobile combo adapter (with a modem).

Running the Component Installer

  1. From the Intel Product Information Autorun screen (which appears when you insert the Intel CD), click the Install Advanced Features button. The Component Install dialog box appears.

  2. For the components you want to install, click the checkbox to the left of it.

NOTE:  If a checkbox contains a gray checkmark, this indicates the component is already installed. Click the checkbox to have the installer check the version. If the component is an earlier version, you will have the option of upgrading that component.  If the component is the same version, you will have the option of re-installing that component.)

Use the Browse button to specify an alternate path if you do not want the default.

NOTE: You cannot modify the installation directory for PROSet II or Desktop Management Interface. For default installation directory information, click the links for each component listed above.

  3. Click Install to begin the installation.

The Installer begins to install the components you've selected. When it is finished, you will see a Summary Report.

  4. Click Next on the Summary Report, and click Finish.

  5. Restart your computer if necessary.

When you run the Component Installer, it checks to see if a previous version of a component exists on your computer. If a previous version exists, that version can be upgraded. Any and all settings specified in the previous version are applied to the upgrade version.

If you install a component and later try to install the same version again, you will receive a message informing you that it will be reinstalled. When reinstalling the same version of the component, any settings you may have specified for it will be lost, due to the reinstallation.

NOTE: PROSet II will automatically be selected for installation whenever you select the following:
