SYMBIOS NT DMI 2.0 SDMS Component Instrumentation Release 2.02.00 ************************************Introduction******************************** The Symbios NT DMI 2.0 SDMS Component Instrumentation (CI) runs as an NT service. It reports asset and configuration information for the adapters and devices controlled by the Symbios Windows NT driver. This file contains the following information: o Features o Hardware requirements o Software requirements o Release restrictions o Installation instructions ***********************************Features*************************************** o Dynamic AMS support for LanDesk 3.0 If AMS for LanDesk 3.0 is present, then the CI will register with it. If AMS for LanDesk 3.0 is not present, then the CI will still load a function correctly. o Support for the SYM_HI driver. The SYM_HI driver supports the SYM53C896 device and SYM22910 host adapter. o From SymSdms2.mif version 2.0 to Symbios2.MIF version 2.5: 1. Upgraded the groups from the SYMBIOS version based on the DMTF: Mass Storage Standard Group Definitions, Version 1.0. to the DMTF version in the DMTF Master MIF. These groups are: SubComponent Software, Worldwide Identifier, Storage Devices, EventGeneration Storage Devices, Storage Controller, EventGeneration Storage Controller, Bus Port Mass Storage Association, EventGeneration Mass Storage Association, Bus Port Association Operational State 2. Upgraded the FRU group to the latest version of the group in the DMTF Master MIF (version 2 to version 3). 3. Removed the Event Generation Bus Port group. 4. Replaced the "SymSdmsMassStorageSystem" group with "Symbios Event Polling" and "Symbios Smart Device" groups. 5. Added these groups: SAF-TE Processor, SAF-TE Controlled Fan, SAF-TE Controlled Power Supply SAF-TE Controlled Slot, SAF-TE Controlled Temperature Sensor, Fibre Channel Bus Port Extentions, Network Adapter Hardware, Network Adapter 802 Port *****************************Hardware Requirements****************************** The component instrumentation works with all Symbios PCI-SCSI I/O Processors that are supported by the SDMS BIOS and drivers. *****************************Software Requirements****************************** The component instrumentation software requirements are: o Requires a DMI 2.0 Service Provider. o Runs with LanDesk version 2.8 or higher. o Requires version 4.04.03 or higher of the Symbios NT SYMC8XX driver or version 4.06.00 or higher of the Symbios NT SYM_HI driver. o Supports the Alert Management System of LanDesk 3.0. *****************************Release Restrictions ****************************** o ******************Installation Instructions for Windows NT********************** The NT CI uses the SYSTEM environment variable WIN32DMIPATH to specify the root directory tree to locate its MIF file. (for example, assume its MIF file is in "WIN32DMIPATH\mifs\backup". Follow these instructions to install this service: 1. SET WIN32DMIPATH to the root directory tree where the service providers mifs\backup directory is located. 2. Copy the symbios2.mif to WIN32DMIPATH\mifs\backup. 3. Make sure all of the Service Provider .DLL files are in your path. 4. Copy symcint2.exe to WIN32DMIPATH\bin\ or to wherever you want to run it from. 5. Copy instsrv.exe to WIN32DMIPATH\bin\ or to wherever you want to run it from when you install the symcint2.exe as an NT service. 6. Install the symcint2.exe as an NT Service by executing: instsrv is any name you choose,as long as it is not already in use. If, for example, symcint2.exe is in c:\dmi\win32\bin\symcint2.exe then execute: instsrv SymCiService c:\dmi\win32\bin\symcint2.exe Note: The executable file, instsrv.exe, installs the service as a manual start. Make sure the NT Service Provider service has started before starting this service. 7. After a DMI 2.0 service provider has started, if AMS support is desired make sure the LANDESK Alert and Message services have started; then you can start the NT CI service by going into the NT Control Panel and then into Services. Find the from step 6. Click the Start button. 8. Go into the NT Control Panel and then into Services to stop the NT CI service. Find the from step 6.
